Hey Y'all
My name is Samantha, and I'm a 23-year-old who still lives with her parents.
I graduated from the University of Georgia in the Spring of 2020, entering the “real” world during a period of social upheaval and economic uncertainty. I started my new job in Atlanta completely remote, and rather than be alone all day in an apartment I moved back in with my parents. Finding myself with more free time while in lockdown, I learned how to cook using the Barefoot Contessa Back to Basics cookbook. Regardless of the occasion, I would set the table nicely to make the meal feel more festive. I learned that you don’t have to wait for special occasions to use your table linens and candles but can instead enjoy these little luxuries every day.
The name “The Stay Home Daughter” came from a term my friends and I jokingly tossed around as we moved back in with our parents. (We’re not stay-at-home moms, but stay-at-home daughters.) I emerged from the COVID lockdown with a new perspective, realizing how I want to spend my time and energy. While I’m no longer staying home all the time, I still believe in taking the time to cook and enjoy meals with my family and friends.
I started this blog as a dinner and party planning resource. Each week I share suggested recipe pairings, cooking schedules, and table setting ideas to help you plan and execute your parties to perfection. Entertaining people in your home can be overwhelming, but this blog serves to remove the stress and make hosting fun. Follow along as I document my attempts at cooking and entertaining, celebrating the everyday with good food and good friends.
